A 71-year-old Bad Axe woman passed away Tuesday as a result of injuries suffered in an accident last Saturday morning. According to Huron County Sheriff Kelly Hanson, Jean M. Kociba was driving in Colfax Township around 9:30 a.m. when witnesses reported seeing her driving eastbound on S. Van Dyke Rd., east of Soper Road. Police said it appeared she was alert and traveling at normal speed, but later, struck a mailbox, utility box and finally a large boulder. Kociba was transported to Huron Medical Center by Central Huron Ambulance and later transferred to an out of county hospital.
Sheriff Department accident investigators processed the scene and believe the accident may have been the result of a medical condition.
