Strong winds knock out service

(UPDATE – 2 P.M.) – As of 2 p.m., Detroit Edison reports most of the electrical service in Sanilac County has been restored. There still remains a large number of customers in Tuscola County without power including customers in the North Branch area while in Huron County, there is minimal disruption.
(9 a.m. Tuesday) – More than 600 Sanilac County residents are without power this morning, after high winds, estimated to have been over 45 mph, roared through the area overnight Monday. Detroit Edison reports customers in Forester Township and the Deckerville area are without power. There are also less than 200 customers without power in the Marlette area.
Tuscola County was the hardest hit, with reports of over one thousand customers in the dark. The majority of the outages are in the Vassar, Caro and North Branch areas. More than 650 customers in the Columbiaville area also reported disruption of service. At the height of the storm, Thumb Electric had around 2,000 customers without service.
In all, DTE reported more than 1,700 customers had been affected, with no estimation of when service will be restored.
