Possible phone scams in area

(Marlette) – Police are investigating a report of a telephone scam involving Marlette Regional Hospital who was contacted by a private citizen Monday, saying the hospital’s phone number and caller identification “Marlette Community Hospital” came up on their caller ID, but the call was an automated recording asking for a credit card number to “switch credit card companies.” The police department was also advised their fax number has ashown up on caller ID, requesting information. Police Chief Brian McGinnis said it’s good practice to not give information over the phone. He said if the businesses need something regarding insurance, credit cards, mortgages, IRS grievances, etc., they will initiate a phone call.
McGinnis advised to never give personal information out over the phone without knowing exactly who you giving that information to.
