Semi-trucks collide in St. Clair County

Two semi-truck drivers suffered injuries this morning in two separate crashes on westbound I-94 in St. Clair County. Deputies from the Sheriff’s Office were called to the scene near Meldrum Road shortly before 3:00 a.m. Upon arrival, they were told by the driver of a tanker truck hauling bulk sugar that he had fallen asleep, went off the roadway, woke up, overcorrected when coming back on the road and rolled the truck and trailer.
A second truck driver tried to avoid the first truck, but struck some debris. Police said both drivers had non-life threatening injuries and were transported by Richmond-Lenox EMS to a local hospital.
Westbound I-94 was closed for nearly five hours due to the crashes.
