Water authority requesting variance from Goodland

Officials in Goodland Township are researching whether or not to allow a variance request that if granted, would allow for construction of a chlorine booster station north of Imlay City. Great Lakes Water Authority, which services many communities in the Lapeer County area, requested the variance to allow them to build a 24 x 24 building.
According to the Water Authority officials, the new station would be built near a 72-inch main near Bowers Road. The water main currently provides water to Imlay City, Lapeer and Mayfield Township residents.
The new water line running from Lake Huron to Flint is expected to go on line this year, reducing the flow in the Detroit water line significantly.
