Sanilac County Dive team gets new equipment

The Sanilac County sheriff department has taken the second step towards being awarded a grant for their 17-member Dive Team that will allow them to purchase additional air bottles, four dry suits and other personal protective gear, a training mannequin and a new trailer to transport equipment and serve as a temporary mobile command center.
The $50,000 grant for updated equipment would allow the department to continue their service in the county and also to neighboring counties as needed. The county’s share of the grant will cost them $12,500 dollars. The USDA must give final approval of the funding.
The dive team not only covers more than 627 square miles of Lake Huron frontage, but has routinely assisted other counties in rescue missions including in Huron and Roscommon counties.
