(Austin Township) – Sanilac County Sheriff’s deputies investigated an accident involving a an ATV and a school bus at the intersection of Cumber and Freiberger Roads in Austin Township on Friday afternoon. The ATV operated by a 56-year old Snover Man,was northbound on Frieberger Road,and failed to yield at the stop sign and drove into the path of a school bus. The Ubly school bus still had children on board, and was travelling west on Cumber Road, when the ATV drove in front of it.
The front of the bus struck the side of the ATV. The bus was driven by a 40-year old Ubly man, and none of the children on board were injured.
The ATV driver was taken to Huron Medical Center for treatment of injuries, while his passenger, a 29-year old Ubly man was taken to St. Mary’s Hospital in Saginaw by flight care.
Alcohol may haven a factor, and names are being withheld pending further investigation.
Argyle and Bingham Township fire departments assisted at the scene.
