The former NBD Bank building has been sold and will become a steakhouse later this year.
(Sandusky) – There is some exciting news in Sandusky today with the announcement of a new business in the heart of town.
WMIC has learned Joe Moore has purchased the former NBD Bank building on the corner of Sanilac Ave. and S. Elk St. and intends to convert the building in to a top notch steakhouse.
In a telephone interview Thursday afternoon, Moore told WMIC News Director Dave Fredrick that the purchase was just completed last week and renovations will begin shortly.
He said family members had considered renovating the Wooden Nickel, however, due to the size of the building and the amount of work to be done, they considered other options.
The businessman expects his 25-year old son to handle the day-to-day operations of the new business.
Moore, who lives in Florida, said family members had an opportunity to tour the former NBD Bank building and knew that was the place for the new business. “Once we saw the size of it, and the possibilities, we knew we anted to pursue that building.”
Moore said beside the main floor, there is also a finished basement that is handicap accessible, opening the door for more meeting rooms and conference rooms.
Moore said they bought a large restaurant in Indiana and have all of the equipment and furniture they need to open the new business.
He projected a completion date of sometime later this fall or the first of next year and anticipates hiring up to 30 employees.
