(PORT SANILAC) – A man at the Huron Shores Mobile Home Park on M-25 near Custer Road in Sanilac Township came to aid of a Port Huron man on a personal watercraft late Saturday afternoon when he saw him fall off the machine several hundred feet from shore.
According to Sanilac County Sheriff Deputies, 44-year-old Jeff Martos saw the man go into the water then set off in a kayak to assist 53-year-old Harold Nelson of Port Huron. Martos was able to grab Nelson and assist him to shore.
Police determined that Nelson had been trying to turn the personal watercraft when he hit a wave and was ejected from the machine. Nelson was transported by ambulance to McKenzie Health System for treatment of his injuries.
Police said both men were wearing life jackets.
