to a serious two-vehicle accident in Marion Township Tuesday afternoon
(SANILAC COUNTY – MARION TOWNSHIP) – At least three people were injured in a two-car accident Tuesday afternoon in Sanilac County’s Marion Township.
According to Deckerville Fire Chief Tracy Hoff, one vehicle hit another broadside at the intersection of Deckerville Road and Maple Grove Road around 12:30 p.m.
Hoff said both vehicles were rolled over on their sides when fire personnel arrived and one car was fully engulfed in flames in a field, prior to firefighters arriving.
“It was a little frustrating,” said Hoff. “We could see the black smoke rolling when we left town and we knew it was bad, but we had to go around the detour which made it even worse for us. I am really thankful for the people like Aaron Puzan who stopped to assist before we got there.”
Hoff said he thought at least four or five people stopped to help, while other off-duty fire and EMS personnel also responded.
Emergency crews responding from Deckerville were diverted to the accident scene, according to Hoff, traveling around a three-mile detour due to County Road crews replacing culverts.
Several passerbys stopped to assist at the scene, rendering aid to the victims, including a young child who was airlifted by helicopter from the scene. Two adults were also injured and transported to an area hospital for treatment of their injuries.
Hoff said Deckerville and Carsonville fire departments responded to the scene, along with four ambulances from Sanilac EMS including off-duty staff who also responded.
The accident remains under investigation.
