(SANILAC COUNTY) – Fourteen Michigan communities, including four in the Thumb region, have been awarded over $23 million dollars in Community Development Block Grant Infrastructure Capacity Enhancement grants to upgrade existing water and sewer systems according to the Michigan Economic Development Corporation.
In Sanilac County, Croswell will receive just under 2 million dollars for water well and filtration plant improvements after providing more than 200 thousand dollars in match money. Deckerville has been awarded around 1.2 million dollars for water storage tower improvements with a local match of 140 thousand dollars.
In Lapeer County, Lapeer will receive $1.8 million dollars for sanitary sewer and pump station improvements as part of a total $2.1 million dollar project while in Huron County, Bad Axe will receive approximately $1.6 million dollars for water main installation and sanitary sewer line improvements.
The city will contribute 180 thousand dollars toward the work. 48 communities applied for grants totaling $72.5 million.
All projects must be completed by December 31, 2019.
