Suspects arrested; Police find loaded firearms

Two suspects were arrested Thursday night

 
(MARLETTE TOWNSHIP) – Shortly after 10 p.m. Thursday evening, Sanilac Central Dispatch received a 9-1-1 call regarding someone believing that their house was being shot at in the 6000 block of West Marlette Road in Sanilac County’s Marlette Township.
According to a press release from the Sanilac County Sheriff Department: “The caller explained that the occupants of the vehicle were also shining spotlights and were now driving southbound on Butler Road. The caller was able to give an accurate description of the vehicle as being a 4-door Jeep Wrangler. Sanilac County Sheriff’s Deputies, Marlette Police and the Department of Natural Resources were dispatched to the area to attempt to locate the vehicle in question.”
The release went on to say, “While conducting a thorough check of the area, Deputy Ken Crase was able to locate the suspect vehicle in question about two miles away from where it was last witnessed by the caller. A traffic stop was conducted and a 31-year-old Deford man and a 30-year-old Coleman man were found to be the occupants of the vehicle.”
During the course of the investigation officers discovered loaded firearms, hundreds of rounds of ammunition and a spotlight located in the vehicle. Multiple traffic signs in the area were also found to be damaged from bullet holes.
Both subjects were arrested and are being held at the Sanilac County Jail awaiting arraignment. They are expected to be arraigned on multiple charges ranging from conservation violations to property damage charges.
Sanilac County Sheriff’s Deputies were assisted in the investigation by the Marlette Police Department and the Department of Natural Resources.
