In an update to a story we reported on Wednesday, the 83-year old man who sustained injuries in a farming accident Monday, is recovering in a Saginaw area hospital’s Intensive Care Unit following surgery.
According to Huron County Sheriff Kelly Hanson, Edward Schember was found inside a barn on Geiger Road in Oliver Township, 28 hours after being pinned by a farm tractor.
Sheriff Hanson said Schember had started a tractor while standing next to it around 4 p.m Monday and became pinned when the tractor ran over one of his legs. Schember’s grandson, Nicholas Schember, found him the following day.
The Oliver Twp. Fire Department freed the man and he was taken to an out of area hospital for treatment.
The sheriff department made a mistake in reporting the original incident.

According to the Huron County sheriff department, Edward Schember was found inside a barn on Geiger Road in Oliver Township, pinned by a farm tractor. Deputies said Schember had started a Farmall tractor while standing next to it around 4 p.m.
When it started, the tractor was in reverse and began moving. Schember was unable to get out of the way and was struck in the leg by the tractor, becoming pinned.
The Oliver Twp. Fire Department freed the victim by jacking the tractor up and he was taken to Scheurer Hospital by EMS for treatment of his injury.
