Animal Control to Be Reorganized

Sanilac County Administrator Tara Griffith informed Commissioners Animal Control Officer Jim Mattson is retiring in June, causing officials to restructure how animal control is handled. Griffith said the county currently has an agreement with Tuscola County for animal control services, but those will be discontinued with the expiration of the contract next month. Tuscola County currently pays Sanilac County over $125,000 per year for shared services. Tuscola officials say for them to run their own program, it would cost about $200,000 per year, plus the cost of vehicles.
