False Information Leads to Search for “Missing” Boaters

Some bad information from family members about a supposed capsized canoeist brought rescue crews out Saturday afternoon, searching for victims for over two hours on August 11. According to the Tuscola County Sheriff’s Office, deputies were dispatched around 3pm to Bernthall’s Gravel Pit for two canoeists that supposedly overturned and went under the water. Multiple agencies, including the Tuscola County Dive team, searched the area with no results. The Sheriff’s Office called off the search shortly after 5 p.m., after learning the original information they had came from a four-year old child who had told other family members.
