(LAPEER) – A four-alarm fire in Lapeer kept firefighters busy battling heavy smoke and flames in a building Tuesday evening. Lapeer Fire & Rescue responded to a report of a structure fire around 11 p.m. in the 1200 block of Imlay City Road.
According to officials with the VIEW Newspaper Group, the County Press/Lapeer Area VIEW sustained heavy smoke damage late Tuesday evening after a fire of an undetermined nature at the southeast corner of the building.
The building was not occupied at the time of the fire. Firefighters from Lapeer Fire & Rescue, as well Elba, Attica and Metamora townships responded to the scene and cleared around 1:30 a.m.
Fire damage was contained to the far eastern end of the building located at the northeast corner of Myers and Imlay City roads. The fire appeared to have started at the southeast corner of the building and moved into the ceiling space causing damage to trusses and a back storage rooms.
The office space was not damaged in the fire, and the office was expected to be open for business as usual Wednesday morning.
