On Sunday evening a suspect was arrested by the Tuscola County Sheriff’s Office as the result of a continuing investigation into an alleged serious assault complaint that was reported earlier at 2900 Gerou Road near Caro. A 36-year-old woman suffered life threatening injuries at the Ellington Township residence and was transported by ambulance for emergency treatment at a local hospital. The victim later died as a result of her injuries. An 11-month-old child was also treated at the hospital for injuries. The child is listed in stable condition. Numerous deputies from the Tuscola County Sheriff’s Office are involved in the investigation as well as members of the Michigan State Police Crime Lab. The case is pending authorization of formal charges at which time the suspect’s name will be released and additional details provided. Tuscola County Sheriff Glenn Skrent wants the public to know that this was an isolated incident and that residents are safe. A 37-year old man is in custody. A domestic relationship existed between the victim and the man. The investigation is continuing.
