COVID vaccine headed to Sanilac County

BREAKING NEWS:
Sanilac County Health Department officials and the Emergency Management office. along with other personnel, have been meeting the past several days to prepare a plan for distribution when the highly-publicized COVID-19 vaccine becomes available.
Sanilac County Emergency Management Director Todd Hillman said the county anticipates having a vaccine available within two weeks.
Hillman said those first to receive the vaccine will be all front line workers in the medical field, including EMS workers, hospital staff and doctor’s offices, along with long term residents in facilities such as nursing homes.
He said other emergency personnel, including police and fire personnel would have the opportunity to receive the vaccine in what he called a second wave of vaccines.
Hillman said they are expecting to have vaccine available for the general public sometime in early 2021.
More than 600 new cases of COVID were reported in the month of November in Sanilac County with 180 cases considered active.

Health officials across the Thumb region continue to monitor the rampant spread of COVID-19. In a three-county region of Sanilac, Tuscola and Huron counties, there have been over 3,600 cases since the start of the virus.
Sanilac County, health officials are now reporting 1,094 cases and 23 deaths since the start of the pandemic. In the month of November, Sanilac County reports over 600 new cases.
Huron County is reporting 857 cases and 16 deaths while Tuscola County has 1,784 cases, and 61 deaths since the start of the virus.
Lapeer County now has 2,648 cases, and 63 deaths and St. Clair County officials have reported over 4,600 cases and 103 deaths.
Statewide, officials are reporting over 395,000 cases since the virus started and more than 9,800 deaths.
