(TUSCOLA COUNTY) – A 53-year old Sebewaing man is behind bars after allegedly assaulting a Michigan State Police Trooper last week.
According to Troopers from the Caro Post, around 9:30 p.m. last Thursday night, Troopers were dispatched to the area of Liken and Berger roads in Tuscola County for a vehicle in the ditch.
Troopers discovered the vehicle was not occupied and further investigation led them to the residence of the vehicle owner, 53-year-old Robert Elias of Sebewaing.
Elias was arrested for operating while intoxicated and taken into custody. During the arrest, Troopers say Elias became combative while being transported to the jail, breaking out the windshield of the patrol vehicle and assaulting the trooper while kicking the windshield and steering wheel.
Elias was lodged at the Tuscola County jail and arraigned on Friday, on multiple charges including felonious assault on a law enforcement officer and malicious destruction of police property.
No injuries were reported.
