(SANILAC COUNTY) – Sanilac County Sheriff Paul Rich awarded a Commendation for Life Saving to Deputy Chad Schmidt of the Uniform Services Division.
Around 6 p.m. on Tuesday, March 30, Deputy Schmidt overheard EMS being dispatched to the 300 block of Elmer Road in Elmer Township for a report of a 29-year-old who was not breathing and in cardiac arrest.
Deputy Schmidt responded to the scene, assessed the patient, and determined the subject to have inadequate breathing and a faint pulse.
Deputy Schmidt determined a need for Narcan to be administered to the patient, and after doing so, the patient’s breathing returned to normal, and they regained consciousness.
Sheriff Rich said he is extremely thankful for the job first responders do day in and day out and is very proud of the quick response and actions of Deputy Schmidt.
Sheriff Rich said Schmidt’s quick assessment and treatment of the patient certainly aided in saving the individual’s life.
