(LAPEER COUNTY) -Two Lapeer County men sustained serious injuries in a crash Thursday afternoon.
According to the Lapeer County Sheriff Department, deputies were sent to the injury traffic crash on Haines Rd. east of Roods Lake around 2:30 p.m.
Investigators say a pick-up truck veered off the road way, striking a mailbox.
According to deputies, the driver tried to overcorrect the vehicle, losing control and then struck a tree sideways.
Investigators say the tree was embedded several feet into the vehicle.
The 40-year-old driver was able to be extracted from the wreckage and remains in stable condition at a local hospital.
The passenger, 37-year old Rick Trott from North Branch, was pronounced deceased at the scene.
Reconstruction and toxicology reports are pending to determine if either speed or alcohol were contributing factors in the fatal crash.
