(LAPEER COUNTY) – An ATV rollover accident over the weekend claimed the life of a Lapeer County man.
Lapeer County Sheriff Department investigators say 44-year-old Richard McLaren, Jr., of Columbiaville sustained fatal injuries Sunday evening in a side-by-side UTV crash in Deerfield Township.
Investigators say a 42-year-old male passenger from Goodrich was not injured in the crash and declined medical treatment.
Deputies were dispatched to an injury crash around 8 p.m. Sunday on Skelton Road, south of Columbiaville Road.
Deputies say McLaren and his passenger were southbound on Skelton Road riding a 2014 Polaris 800 Razor when it went off the right side of the roadway.
During an attempt to maneuver the UTV back onto the roadway, the vehicle overturned and rolled numerous times before coming to rest in the roadway on its roof.
Investigators are awaiting toxicology reports to determine if alcohol or drugs were a factor in the fatal crash.
