The Sanilac County Sheriff Department lost a member of their family this week, losing a retired K-9 deputy.
According to the department, K-9 Deputy Kaye passed away on Tuesday.
Deputy Kaye was a German Shephard, born on July 1, 2006 and became an official member of the Sheriff’s Office in 2008.
Kaye who was assigned to Deputy Bryan Heilig was a graduate of Mid-Michigan Kennels Basic Police K-9 Academy and was trained as a Dual-Purpose Patrol Dog in Narcotics, Tracking, and Protection.
Kaye was medically retired in 2012 and spent her retirement years with her family, the Heilig’s, before passing this week.
