(HURON COUNTY) – A pair of fatal accidents claimed the lives of two people in separate incidents Monday.

In the first incident, a Huron County woman lost her life while walking on Campbell Road, near the intersection of Grassmere Road in Chandler Township around 6 p.m. Monday night.

Huron County Sheriff Department officials say a witness to the sound of the collision from a distance away believed it occurred around 20 minutes earlier, but wasn’t alarmed at the time because of different incidents that have occurred with vehicles over the years.

The witness claimed it is not uncommon for haulers to lose part of their loads and to have to stop, which the suspect vehicle did after he heard the noise.

The witness believed the suspect vehicle was a black four-door older model car driven by a male. Deputies say the victim, 67-year old Linda Shaw of Elkton lived close to the scene of the incident.

Tips are being followed up on the suspect and suspect vehicle, believed to have been traveling east on Campbell Rd. Sheriff Kelly Hanson says the Sheriff’s Office is asking for any information available regarding the fatal incident.

Anyone who may have been traveling in the area around 6 p.m., or who lives in the area that may have seen this possible suspect passing through, is asked too call Huron Central Dispatch.

Other agencies responding were Oliver Fire, Elkton Police and EMS and the Huron County Medical Examiner’s Office.

SAND BEACH FATALITY – In the second fatal incident, a one vehicle accident claimed the life of a Huron County man Monday night.

According to the Huron County Sheriff Department, deputies responded to the area of Lincoln and Schock Roads in Sand Beach Township after receiving calls of the accident.

Deputies say the single vehicle fatality was reported by a passing by motorist who had come across a damaged 2002 Ford Expedition in a ditch.

Sheriff Kelly Hanson says the sole occupant, and driver, was found partially ejected and deceased.

Investigators say the victim, 64-year old Steven Tageson of Port Hope, was not wearing a seatbelt while driving west on Lincoln when he lost control and rolled his vehicle at least one time before coming to rest.

Accident investigators from the Sheriff’s Office continues to investigate the accident.

Other agencies responding to the accident were the Harbor Beach fire and police departments, the Huron County Medical Examiner’s Office and Eastern Huron Ambulance.
