(SANILAC COUNTY) – A St. Clair County man sustained serious injuries following a motorcycle accident in Sanilac County’s Forester Township Saturday afternoon. According to the Sanilac County Sheriff Department, deputies responded to the area of Forester and Day Roads around 5:30 p.m. after receiving calls of the accident.
Deputies’ initial investigation revealed that a 59-year-old Grant Township man was eastbound on Forester Road on a 1999 Indian Motorcycle and failed to negotiate the curve at Day Road and was ejected off of the motorcycle. The man was treated on scene for his injuries by Port Sanilac Fire and Sanilac EMS and later flown from scene by Life Net to Hurley Hospital.
The 59-year-old male subject was not wearing a helmet and alcohol appears to be a factor in this crash. Deputies were assisted by Port Sanilac Fire Department and Sanilac EMS. The crash remains under investigation.
In a second crash, a Mid-Michigan man sustained serious injuries after the motorcycle he had been riding was pushed 200 feet by a vehicle before he fell off.
According to the Sanilac County Sheriff Department, deputies and other emergency personnel responded to the scene, in the area of Bay City Forestville and Ruth Roads in Delaware Township, around 9:30 p.m.
Investigation showed that a 2014 Subaru, driven by a 22-year-old female from Lansing, was traveling westbound on Bay City Forestville Road when the driver rear ended a 2001 Harley Davidson Sportster motorcycle driven by a 45-year-old male from Mason.
The collision caused the motorcycles rear end to become imbedded in front of the Subaru and pushed down the road for approximately 200 feet before the vehicles came to rest and the driver of the motorcycle fell to the ground.
As a result, the driver of the motorcycle sustained serious injuries. Deputies along with Delaware Fire Rescue, Sanilac EMS and East Huron EMS responded to the scene.
The man was transported EMS personnel to McLaren Thumb Region Hospital in Bad Axe while the driver of the Subaru was not injured.
Speed and distracted driving appear to be a factor in the crash. Deputies say the motorcyclist was not wearing a helmet.
