A wanted inmate from the Sanilac County Jail turned himself in to authorities over the weekend, ending a multi-day search for the man who walked away from a work crew last week.
According to the Sanilac County Sheriff Department, Aaron Roll turned himself in shortly after noon Sunday. He had been at large since walking away from a work detail Thursday while the crew was working in Flynn Township near Brown City.
The 27-year old Roll was reported to have walked away in the area of Shephard Rd and Peck Rd, dressed in his jail uniform.
Authorities with the jail say they had received numerous tips and were assisted by several citizens and law enforcement agencies.
Sheriff Paul Rich said the Sheriff’s Office Inmate Work Crew Program has been in place for many years and utilizes lower classification inmates to perform community service within the Sanilac County.
Lieutenant Nathan Smith said this is the first incident of walking away from the program since 2016. Lt. Smith also said Roll was scheduled to be released in November. S
heriff Rich said Roll was originally incarcerated for larceny in a building and receiving stolen property, but now will most likely be facing additional charges.
