COV ID cases spike in Sanilac County

(SANILAC COUNTY) – Shortly after announcing the latest COVID-19 cases in Sanilac County earlier this week, Sanilac County Health Director Bryant Wilkie had to adjust his numbers, and not in the direction he wanted.
During a break at the Board of Commission meeting Tuesday afternoon, Wilkie said he had just received word that there had been 205 new cases in the past TWO days, leaving the county with over 400 cases, both active and new, since November 8th.
Director Wilkie went on to say the county is experiencing a 25% positivity rate, sharply higher than it had been this past summer.
After a decline in numbers during the summer season, Wilkie says he fears a continued upward trend could force local health department officials to make a decision similar to last year when masks were required and other prevention measures were taken.
Health department officials feel citizens have let their guard down a little, not being as vigilant with personal hygiene with washing hands and they are concerned about the uptick in cases, heading into the Thanksgiving holiday.
