(SANILAC COUNTY) – It will be a busy tax cycle for taxpayers in Sanilac County next year, including the fate of six renewal millages up for considerations in the August Primary.
County Clerk Denis McGuire, who is counting the days down to her retirement at the end of the year, said the county has 11 millages overall, the most of any county in the entire State. McGuire has served as County Clerk for the past 33 years.
According to Wendi Willing, in the County Equalization Department, of the six renewals, based on taxable values this year, the DTF millage will generate in excess of $847,000 dollars.
Five others; Parks, Medical Care Facility, Veterans, S.A.V.E. and 9-1-1, all generate just over $339,000 dollars. A Library and Medical Control millage generate $339,000 dollars each while the Recycle millage brings in just over $254,000 dollars this year.
A Senior Citizen Millage generates almost $424,000 dollars this year while Road millages generate just under $3.4 million this year.
While the six millages are up for renewal next year, the remaining five could be voted on in 2023, if ballot language is approved.
