(SANILAC COUNTY) – A three-vehicle crash in Sanilac County early
Monday morning has claimed the life of a Huron County woman and injured four other people in what investigators believe was an accident related to snow-covered roads.
Around 9:30 a.m., Sanilac Central Dispatch received a 9-1-1 call regarding a Personal Injury Traffic Crash on S. Van Dyke Rd. near Cooper Rd. in Marlette Township. Deputies along, with the Marlette Fire Department and Marlette EMS, were dispatched to the scene.
Deputies say a 2002 Chevrolet Express Van driven by a 54-year old male from Elkton and also occupied by a 48-year old female from Elkton was southbound on Van Dyke Rd. Due to snowy /icy conditions, the vehicle lost control and entered the northbound lane of traffic.
The van struck a northbound 2019 Volvo Semi and Trailer, operated by a 51-year old male from Norton Shores. Deputies say the Van then re-entered the southbound lane and was struck again, this time by a southbound 2015 Lexus.
The Lexus was operated by a 76-year old Pigeon man who also had a 76-year old Pigeon female passenger.
The 48-year old female from Elkton was pronounced deceased on scene while the 54-year old man was taken by Marlette EMS to Marlette Hospital and later flown by helicopter to Flint Hurley Hospital.
The 76-year old male and female from Pigeon were taken by Sanilac EMS to McKenzie Hospital.
Assisting on the scene was the Lamotte Township Fire Department, Sanilac County Animal Control and the Sanilac County Road Commission.
The crash remains under investigation.
