Retired Sheriff K-9 Deputy “Baki” passes away
(SANILAC COUNTY) – The Sanilac County Sheriff Department issued the following press release Monday morning:
“It is with a heavy heart that the Sanilac County Sheriff’s Office announces the passing of retired K-9 Deputy Baki on Saturday, January 1, 2022.
Baki a black and tan German Shephard was born on June 6, 2012, in Poland and imported to the United States after being selected for law enforcement service by Mid-Michigan Police K-9.
Baki, who was assigned to Deputy Josh Horst became an official member of the Sanilac County Sheriff’s Office in 2013 after both graduated a Police K-9 Handlers Course provided by Mid-Michigan Police K-9.
Baki was a dual-purpose patrol dog who was trained in explosives detection, tracking, and protection.
Baki retired on December 4, 2020, and spent his time in retirement with his family, the Horst’s.
