Security officers from a private security firm will soon be patrolling the halls of Croswell-Lexington Community Schools. The decision came during last Monday night’s school board meeting, when the board moved to contract with Premier Security Solutions of Flint through June of 2023. In a letter sent to parents last Thursday, Cros-Lex Superintendent Dan Gilbertson said the decision was made after Croswell Police Chief Ron Buckmaster notified the district that the department would no longer be able to provide a School Resource Officer due to a shortage of qualified applicants for the position. The officer temporarily assigned to the district will end at the end of the day tomorrow (Friday). The move comes with a significant cost increase for the district–The Croswell Police Department’s contract costs were about $83,000 for a nine month period. Premier Security Solutions’ contract will set the district back over twice as much, with a total cost of $168,480 for four company employees for the same time period. Premier Security Solutions is a private security company based in Flint made up of industry veterans with backgrounds in law enforcement. The firm has earned the endorsement of multiple police departments throughout the state, include the Sanilac County Sheriff Department.
