Third Graders Invited to Participate in Sesquicentennial Celebaration

February 23, 2022 - March 22, 2022

Each year the Sanilac County Historical Society (SCHS) invites the county’s 3rd grade students to participate in a contest. This year students are invited to join in the Sesquicentennial (150th Anniversary) Celebration of the Loop Harrison Mansion by coloring, painting, or drawing a picture of the Mansion.  There are four different coloring pages the students can choose between.  Or they can create an original art piece like a collage, mosaic, paper mache, or clay model. The goal is to celebrate the Loop Harrison Mansion and get creative with it!
Students will also need to do some research, as the contest requires them to share three facts about the Loop Harrison Mansion, two true, and one made up (but don’t tell which is which)  The winners will be chosen based on originality, creativity, spelling, grammar, and the ability to follow directions.
This year instead of individual prizes for the top three winners, a prize will be awarded to the winner’s entire class.  Funding for this year’s prizes is generously offered by the Sanilac Consortium for the arts.
1st place – A visit from an art teacher, plus all the needed supplies to create an art project for class.
2nd and 3rd place – An art package filled with important items for the class, including glue sticks, paint brushes, crayons, construction paper etc.
Details were emailed to each school in the county and to many home school groups:
*Students should draw, paint, color, etc a picture of the Loop Harrison Mansion.  Or they can create a model using any variety of media.  Both realistic and playful versions accepted.  Just get creative and have fun!
*Students should complete a student info form and submit it with their artwork.
*Deadline for submission is March 22nd, 2022.  Submissions should be hand-delivered to the Museum Tuesday – Friday from 11 am – 4 pm, or mailed to “SCHS” P.O. Box 158 Port Sanilac, MI 48469
*Winners’ teachers will be notified by April 5th, 2022
Contact the Museum for copies of the coloring pages and/or student information forms.  The Sanilac County Historical Society wishes each and every student the very best of luck, and they look forward to seeing your projects!
