(SANILAC COUNTY) – Longtime Sanilac County Sheriff Department employee Lt. John Moody is calling it a career. Sheriff Paul Rich made the following announcement Thursday afternoon.
From Sheriff Rich:
“A long 28-year career is coming to a close for retiring Jail Administrator, Lieutenant John Moody. Lieutenant Moody was hired in 1994 and has spent his entire career at the Sanilac County Sheriff’s Office. He began his career as a Dispatcher before transferring to Corrections Deputy in 1995 and was promoted to Corporal in 2006. John went on to be promoted to the rank of Sergeant in 2009 until his promotion to Jail Operations Lieutenant in 2017.
In 2019 he was promoted to his current position of Jail Administrator.
During his career, John held many different positions and responsibilities. He served as a field training officer where he was influential in developing future Corrections Deputies. Lieutenant Moody was a certified instructor for Michigan’s Local Corrections Officer Academy where he taught young officers entering the field.
He also became certified as a background investigator as well as a Mission Team investigator for the Michigan Sheriff’s Association. John worked persistently as the PREA (Prison Rape Elimination Act) Coordinator to bring Sanilac County into compliance with Federal PREA Standards. During his time as Sergeant, he was assigned the position of Transport Sergeant where he was responsible for coordinating all inmate transports.
Lieutenant Moody’s main responsibility was overseeing the Sheriff’s Office jail budget, and to continue developing revenue brought back into the County through jail bed rentals. He proudly represented the Sheriff’s Office serving on The Sanilac County Retirement Board as Chairman, Community Corrections Board, MMRMA/MSA Advisory Board, TORQ Grant Board, and Thumb Regional Sobriety Court Board,
John is a 2013 graduate of the National Institute of Corrections Jail Administration Program, a 2017 graduate of the Michigan Sheriff’s Association Jail Administrator’s School, and a 2021 graduate of the Michigan Jail Command Staff Academy. He has received several awards over his career, notably the MACNLOW Associates Capstone Award for successfully completing their Supervisory Series.
Sheriff Rich stated, “I am proud of John, and the accomplishments of our Corrections Division under his leadership. I wish him a healthy, happy retirement, and good luck in any future endeavors.”
