Two-vehicle accident claims the life of two people

St. Clair County Sheriff Deputies are investigating a fatal two-vehicle crash on Kinney Rd (M-19) near Burt Rd yesterday, March 24th shortly after 1 p.m.

Accident investigators with the Sheriff Department say five people were involved in the crash that killed two people. Deputies believe a 2021 GMC Terrain was headed north on Kinney Rd. (M-19), colliding with a 2012 Nissan Altima that was traveling southbound on Kinney Rd.

Investigators say the crash appears to have been caused by one of the vehicles crossing the center line. M-19 was closed in both directions for over three hours for treatment of victims, accident clean-up and investigation, before re-opening shortly after 4 p.m.

According to rescue personnel at the scene, the driver of the Terrain, a 40-year old female from Mussey Township was extricated from the vehicle and transported to McLaren Port Huron Hospital in Critical condition.

Additionally, an 18 month old child that was in the same vehicle was transported to a local hospital with injuries that left them in critical condition.

The driver of the Altima, a 27- year old Warren female, along with a 15-year old Emmett male died at the scene of the crash. Deputies and rescue personnel also found a 3-year old male in the back seat of the car and was transported to McLaren Port Huron in Critical Condition.

Photos, statements and crash data from the vehicles will be used by the St Clair County accident reconstruction team in their investigation.

Assisting deputies at the scene Agencies involved were Tri Hospital EMS, Richmond Lenox EMS, Michigan State Police, and the Emmett Fire Department.

Yale Public Schools Superintendent posted a letter to parents of the district, saying the district was heartbroken and devastated after hearing about the accident.

The 15-year old victim killed in the crash was a freshman at Yale High School.

Grief counselors were being made available to students and staff throughout the day Friday.
