Lapeer County’s Animal Control said goodbye to retiring chief Dave Eady last Friday, but new chief Rachel Horton is hitting the ground running to provide the county’s animals a safe and friendly place until they head to their forever home.
The Imlay City native started at the county animal control in 2019 and credits her 4H and FFA experiences, as well as family and friends, for allowing her to pursue the dream position.
Describing her team as hardworking and passionate about their work with animals, Horton notes that their main battle will be getting the funding needed to provide more shelter and care for the county animals, particularly the booming cat population. Still, she hopes to make major changes and offer more help to county residents in her role.
