Deputies investigate Lapeer motorcycle crash

A late night crash in Lapeer County on Sunday claimed the life of 40-year-old Michael Isom of Columbiaville. Responding deputies pronounced him dead at the scene, saying that they believe he was heading west on Stanley Road on his 2013 Harley Davidson.

It’s believed that he gradually drove off the right shoulder on the road’s north side, entering a grassy ditch and continuing for 200 feet before trying to get back on the road. His attempt was what caused the motorcycle to overturn and roll several times.

Isom had not been wearing a helmet at the time of the accident, and alcohol may have contributed, but investigators have not officially concluded anything. Stanley Road was closed for 2 hours following the accident. Assisting at the scene were Marathon Township First Responders, Lapeer County EMS, and the Lapeer County Sheriff Office’s Traffic Crash Reconstruction Division and Victim’s Services Unit.
