Officials say that neither alcohol nor drugs were involved in the car collision that took the life of an 80-year-old Cass City woman in a Gagetown church parking lot on July 4.
The woman had been volunteering at a food bank with her 82-year-old husband at Our Lady Consolata Parish Church, with witnesses saying that the husband was leaving a parking spot when he struck his wife with his 2021 Ford Explorer. She had been taking trash to “receptacle in the parking lot” when he struck her. She later succumbed to her injuries. At present, there has not been a citation given, due to the ongoing investigation, with investigators planning to send their findings to the Tuscola County Prosecutor’s Office once finished.
The Michigan State Police were assisted at the scene by the Cass City Police and Fire Departments, Gagetown-Elmwood Township Fire, and Mobile Medical Response.
