DETROIT (AP) – Six Republican members of Michigan’s congressional delegation want President Barack Obama to reconsider an order requiring the return of some armored military vehicles to the federal government. The Detroit Free Press reports the letter Monday says “we caution you to avoid penalizing every state and local law enforcement agency … for the bad acts of a few.” The letter noted last week’s California shootings, saying “local police and emergency personnel are on the front lines of this new phase in the terrorists’ war against us.” It was signed by Reps. Mike Bishop, Bill Huizenga, Candice Miller, John Moolenaar, Dave Trott and Fred Upton. Obama this year ended long-running federal transfers of some combat-style gear to local law enforcement in an attempt to ease tensions between police and minority communities.
