The Sanilac County Drug Task Force had a successful Drug Take Back Day on October 29, with residents across the county turning in almost 190 pounds of pills.
With the county sheriff’s office providing almost 117 pounds of that amount, Marlette, Deckerville, Croswell and Brown City police also collected pills, with the former three collecting a rough average of 20 pounds between them and Brown City turning in 10.4 pounds.
The pills, which were turned over to Drug Enforcement Agency officers for safe disposal, were either expired or no longer used/needed, with the drug task force reminding citizens that pills can be dropped off year round at local police offices or by calling 810-648-4580 for pickup.
In other DTF news, Brown City schools called the task force on Tuesday, October 25, having found a 13-year-old using and carrying marijuana at school. Further investigation by DTF and assistance by the school led to the task force investigating two Marlette residents, a 20-year-old woman and a 22-year-old man.
A request for charges against the pair has been sent to the Sanilac Prosecutor, having found that the woman had sold the cannabis to the teenager on school grounds on Monday, October 24, with the man being viewed as an accomplice at this time.
