The Challenger Learning Center at SC4 is pleased to announce Operation Comet, a new addition to Lunar Quest programming. The current program is available to those in grade five and above, however, this addition hopes to expand the Center by offering options to learners as young as third grade.
In Operation Comet, mission crews help reengineer a robotic probe to stop a comet from hitting the Earth. In Mission Lunar Quest, participants deploy a Lunar Exploration Rover to investigate the lunar surface and learn how to make critical decisions. Both of these missions meet national science standards for their recommended grade levels, but can be adjusted for older participants.
“We’re thrilled to add more fun and exciting STEM learning opportunities at SC4,” said Kristin Copenhaver, the chief marketing officer. “When we first launched the Challenger Learning Center in April 2022, there were many requests to bring in younger elementary groups. Many of those groups were able to take advantage of Experience Center programming, but Operation Comet helps us address the growing needs of STEM learning at this younger age level in additional new ways.”
More than 2,500 students, visitors, educators, business employees, community residents and friends from nearly 100 zip codes have visited the Challenger Learning Center since it first launched.
