(AUSTIN TOWNSHIP) — Sanilac County Sheriff’s deputies are investigating a single-vehicle crash that happened Saturday morning around 8 a.m. on M-19 just south of Cumber Road in Austin Township. Deputies say that 37-year-old Justin Carpenter of Decker was traveling south on M-19 when he drove off the road into a shallow ditch and struck two driveway embankments. According to deputies, Carpenter had fallen asleep at the wheel and was not wearing his seat belt. The impact vaulted his head into the windshield and roof. He was transported to Huron Medical Center in Bad Axe for treatment. Alcohol is not believed to be a factor in the crash.
