Port Huron Police  have released their person of interest in the ongoing investigation of a suspicious death that occurred Sunday morning in the 1300 block of 17th Street.

Police Chief Brian Kerrigan added in a press release on Monday that an autopsy had been completed on the 26-year-old St. Clair County man authorities found in the Port Huron home, with the medical examiner waiting for laboratory results before officially concluding cause of death.

The person of interest was one of two people seen fleeing from the residence early Sunday morning, before police were called to the scene shortly before 2:00 a.m. due to reports of an assault with a firearm. After treating the unclear situation as a barricaded suspect for several hours, police entered the home before 8:00 a.m. to find the deceased.

The Michigan State Police Crime Lab assisted authorities in collecting evidence, with the Port Huron Police’s Major Crimes Unit and Criminal Investigative Division interviewing people and running down tips.

With the prosecutor’s office reviewing the case yesterday, February 27, Chief Kerrigan made clear that the person of interest’s release was pending further investigation in the ongoing case.
