While St. Clair and Tuscola counties participated in the statewide tornado drill at 1:00 p.m. today(March 22, 2023) as part of Severe Weather Awareness Week, the other three Thumb counties opted for a slightly different schedule.
According to a press release from the Huron County Emergency Management, local circumstances currently prevent the county from participating in the statewide drill. They plan to have their systems and sirens testing instead on Thursday, April 6, at 7:00 p.m.
Sanilac County will have their emergency warning system test next week on Tuesday, March 28, at 5:00 p.m.
Meanwhile, Lapeer County has been opting out of the statewide drill since 2021 at least, instead having monthly tests of their sirens on the first Saturday of every month from April to October, with each test happening at 1:00 p.m.
