A motorhome fire yesterday afternoon was a quick fix for the Lapeer City Fire and Rescue Department, with the fire being contained within 10 minutes of firefighters’ arrival.
The firefighters had been dispatched around 2:50 p.m. on April 6 to the 600 block of North Madison Street in Lapeer after a 911 call reported that the front of a motorhome parked in the driveway was on fire and the siding on the house was melting. Arriving five minutes later, crews found that the RV was parked within feet of a single-family home and an unattached single car garage, raising the incident to a second alarm fire.
However, the fire was quickly contained and the incident was declared under control within ten minutes of arrival. The small Winnebago motorhome sustained damage to the engine compartment, as well as the interior of the RV. The home’s damage was limited to the vinyl siding, while the garage sustained damage to the garage door, exterior wall cover and the soffit area.
There were no injuries reported, and the fire remains under investigation. The department was assisted at the scene by City of Lapeer Police, Lapeer County EMS, Elba Township Fire Department and Metamora Township Fire Department.
