Despite just having a meeting Tuesday, April 4, the Board of Commissioners will be meeting next Tuesday, April 11 to review and approve the 2023 Equalization Report, as mandated for all counties across Michigan.
Equalization process is vital to guaranteeing that properties are assessed at 50% of market value, as required by the state. County Equalization serves as a check on assessments determined at the local level, ensuring they are fair and equitable across the county. Having received completed assessment rolls from the local towns and townships around the county, Sanilac’s equalization director, Wendi Willing, will be preparing a report for the commissioners’ approval that recommends the equalized value of each class of real and personal property for each local unit.
Sanilac County’s total equalized value has increased over the years, with 2022 seeing that value being just shy of 3 billion dollars.
Aside from the report and its review, the Board of Commissioners will have an otherwise light agenda. The board is looking to authorize the purchase of wireless card access doors, digital security cameras, an enclosed trailer for the Sheriff’s office, and a new garage door at the recycling center.
They will also be authorizing the Lexington Park Maintenance Building Project.
