Brown City sets date, time for city’s Public Project Planning Meeting

The Brown City council had a quick meeting this past Monday, April 10, with not much on the agenda aside from granting building permits for two citizens’ home projects and determining the date for the Public Project Planning meeting.
With council approval, the meeting will be held on Monday, April 24, during their regular meeting time of 7:00 p.m. to discuss the proposed 2024 city sewer project, to be funded by Michigan’s Clean Water State Revolving Fund and Strategic Water Quality Initiatives Fund.
The proposed project is intended to improve the City’s sanitary sewer collection system for better public health, safety, and welfare. Project construction will involve replacement of the aging Maple Valley Road pump station, point repairs to the sanitary collection system, footing drain disconnection, storm sewer extensions for sump line connections, SCADA improvements, and associated restoration work. The estimated cost for the proposed project will be approximately $5.1 million.
Also at Monday’s meeting, City Manager Charles Bennett noted that the city hall’s rear exterior brick wall is crumbling, with the council approving it to be repaired, with associated costs not to exceed $3,000. In addition to the council’s concern about a pothole by Ben’s Supermarket in Brown City, Mayor Julie Miller reminded that the Memorial Day parade would be held in town on May 29 at 10:00 a.m., as well as announcing resident Pam Willer as the winner of Market and More’s Golden Egg Raffle.
The council will be meeting for their regularly scheduled city council meeting and the public project proposal hearing on Monday, April 24, at 7:00 a.m. at city hall.
