With a presentation from the Michigan Association of School Boards (MASB) regarding the school’s superintendent search and a slew of policy updates on the agenda, the Sandusky Community School Board met last night for their April meeting.
With current superintendent Paul Flynn leaving for Coldwater Schools at the beginning of July, the clock is ticking for the school board to find his replacement before the 2023-2024 school year begins.
MASB’s presentation laid out the usual 13-week superintendent hiring process, with the organization being in the midst of those hiring processes at nearby Deckerville and Marlette schools as well. The 13-week time-frame would put the hiring of the new superintendent in the middle of July, with it unclear if the district would appoint an interim superintendent.
Also at Monday night’s meeting, the board discussed and approved 17 new Neola policies, including five policies regarding tobacco use and two policies on acceptable use of technology by students and staff. In addition, the board received the resignation of Kurt Wentzel, a longtime English and Social Studies teacher in the district, who will be leaving at the end of the school year.
