The Human Development Commission will be hosting three separate senior seminars in Tuscola, Sanilac, and Huron Counties from 9 AM to 2 PM on May 24th, May 31st, and June 7th, respectively.
Topics to be discussed include banking safety, home safety equipment, fire safety, and tips on budgeting food benefits. Onsite medication collection will also be provided, with help from each county’s local sheriff departments. Sanilac County’s event will be held at the Lexington United Methodist Church. The keynote speaker is Sheriff Paul D. Rich, who has thirty-five years of experience with the department, including the Sanilac County Drug Task Force and State Police Narcotics Enforcement Team. Huron County’s seminar will be held at the Evangel Life Assembly of God Church. The Huron County Health Department, the leader of Substance Abuse Prevention in the county, will act as the keynote speaker. Tuscola County’s event will be held at the St. Paul Lutheran Church. With over 15 years of experience in Health Education, Amy Cuthrell is the much anticipated keynote speaker, and she leads the Tuscola County Prevention and Recovery network.
All speakers will be teaching participants how to properly dispose of unwanted medicines, as well as how to keep current medicines safe at home. Reservations for Sanilac and Tuscola County’s senior seminars are due by May 17th, and May 31st for Huron County’s, at the latest.
