St. Clair Sheriff Mat King reported that for his officers, “yesterday was a prime example that no call is simple or routine” as the department tracked down a pair of teens on an early morning crime spree.

Just after 3:30 a.m. on Wednesday, July 26, deputies responded to the intersection of Smiths Creek and Range Road for a report of a 2012 Honda Civic striking a pole and causing the intersection’s traffic lights to go down. Soon after arriving, deputies discovered that the driver and passenger had taken off on foot, but they were quickly located in the area of a nearby school and taken into custody. The suspects are a 17-year-old male from Port Huron and a 16-year-old male from Port Huron Township.

While searching the vehicle and suspects, a stolen firearm was recovered, and miscellaneous burglary tools were found as well. On the way to make contact with the owner of the Civic in Kimball Township, a deputy discovered another vehicle in the ditch next door. After making contact at this residence, it was found that their home had been broken into, with the suspects having cut a screen to gain access to the home. A cell phone, keys, money, and medication had been taken.

Upon arrival at the Civic’s registered owner’s home, it was discovered that entry had been gained into her home through a cut screen window as well. It appears that the keys were taken from inside the home and the vehicle was then driven out of the garage by the suspects.

As the investigation progressed, a stolen black Lincoln was found abandoned on westbound I-94, near where the home invasions had taken place. Among the items found on the suspects, was a key fob that unlocked the found Lincoln.

The two juveniles are currently lodged at the Juvenile Justice Center in Macomb. In total, three stolen vehicles, a stolen firearm, burglary tools, and counterfeit money were recovered.

The investigation is still ongoing with St. Clair County Sheriff’s deputies and detectives, Port Huron Major Crimes Unit, Port Huron Police Department, and Marysville Police Department investigating.
