With their first August meeting next week, the Sanilac County Board of Commissioners plan to interview candidates for the Community Mental Health Board and Library Board.

Each board has one candidate to interview, with Kurt Wentzel, former longtime Sandusky School District English and Social Studies teacher, looking for another five year term on the library board. Wentzel was appointed in June 2018, with his reappointment supported by the library board’s chairperson, Gail Nartker.

Looking to fill a partial term for the Community Mental Health Board ending March 31, 2026 is Angela Weber of Minden City, a healthcare professional who has been in the area since the start of her career, beginning as a registered nurse at Deckerville Community Hospital. Currently a primary care nurse practitioner for Hills and Dales Healthcare, Weber expressed in her letter of interest to the board that, having extensive knowledge of the county’s mental health needs via her work in public health, her input would serve the board well.

The commissioners are also due to authorize funding for the Blue Water Conservation District, which entails a three-year commitment to providing a full time technician to help implement farm bill programs in the county. The amount is not to exceed $10,000 per year through 2026’s fiscal year, with the money coming from the Environmental Trust Fund.
